Diana | Wilfredo : Save the Date Engagement Couple Shoot

Diana had so many save the date choices in Baja, but she was dying to see the stranded ship in Ensenada and wanted some beach engagement photos.

She was very excited because her save the date idea was to have the stranded fishing boat in the background of her engagement shoot.

Her wedding will take place in 2022 at the elegant and very popular Raiz 337 wedding venue in Tijuana, so she couldn’t wait to send out invitations for the announcement.

The Barco Encallado "Vicmar" as it’s called locally, has become quite the tourist destination even if the steep walk down is a bit perilous.

The sardine fishing boat was abandoned in 2016, and they tried for months to repair it but finally admitted defeat and left it as a tourist attraction instead of spending to have it moved. There is access now to help you get down to the beach and you can get close enough to touch the fallen attraction, if the tide is low.

I decided to use my Sony A7R3 and Wescott FJ200 flash on the shoot to keep my pack light and then guarding my photo equipment carefully, made the slow 10-minute journey from the parked car on the highway down to the vacant beach.

It was a really misty morning (as usual near the beach areas in Baja), but eventually the fog lifted and then sun came out in full power which is not usually ideal for portraits. The flash helped to overpower the brightness of the sun though and we got this beautiful kiss captured as a permanent memory.

The best engagement pics are those that come from a shared passion and both Diana and Wilfredo loved the mysterious nature of the abandoned ship. Maybe it’s a symbol of starting fresh, leaving past demons behind to start a new relationship.

If you’re searching for things to do in Tijuana, consider an hour drive from the border to see this interesting Ensenada attraction. Park off the highway from the toll road about 200m before Playa Saldamando beach camping area.
